* Astro_22 Astrology V3.5 Copyright D.K. Wilkinson 1992/93 *
*********************************************************************
PLEASE NOTE: The shaded menu options are disabled and are for use with
the additional modules. They have been left in situ to show the rage
of features available.

* CREATING A CHART *
**********************************************************************
Select the 'New Chart' option from the Menu Bar and a data entry
screen prompts for birth details of the Subject. Press the
'Space Bar' to continue.
1. Enter the name of the person.
3. Date is in the format DD.MM.YYYY^
2. Time and Place of birth is entered as HH.MM.Place Name^ The full
stop may be substituted as a space for ease of entry and this
applies to all subsequent entries. ( ^ is Return key.) Entry of the
Place Name is optional. If the Place Name is present this will be
displayed on the main screen and if the chart is subsequently saved
to disk the program checks the 'Lat_Long' database and the current
geographical data is added if this is not already present.
4. If Summertime was in effect for the above date enter as x^
else enter 0^.
6. Latitude is in the format xx.xxN^ or S. (Northern or Southern
Hemisphere.) See note below.
7. Longitude is entered as xxx.xxE^ or W. (East or West of Greenwich)
8. If you are satisfied with the information entered press 'Y' at
screen prompt. If you have made a mistake press 'N' and select the
line entry that you wish to change.
The birth chart will appear on the screen. The green inter-aspect
lines at the centre of the screen show harmonious combinations, red
inter-connecting lines are stressful aspects. The small coloured
circles in the centre of the Chart Wheel show where any conjunction is
operating and its nature:
Green=Harmonious.
Red=Stressful.
White=Neutral
Note: You may escape from any prompt line simply by pressing the
RETURN KEY - You are also able to move through the prompt lines
using this method without overwriting the current data. If SPACE was
accidentally pressed just keep pressing the RETURN key to escape.
Summertime:
If you need to check if Summertime was in force for the date selected
enter a '?' at the prompt then enter the year as promted.
Latitude and Longitude:
An on-line database containing most of the main Cities and Towns in
the World is supplied. Enter a '?' at the prompt and you will be asked
for a place name. Usually you only need to enter the first three
letters of the name. If the entry is in the file this will be shown on
screen.
Note: The database has near to 4000 locations, however if your place
of birth is not listed choose the nearest city.
The index section of any good World Atlas gives exact geographical
co-ordinates. Place names usually have the Latitude and longitude
listed. Second hand bookshops are a good source of cheap Atlases.
Extract the index section and throw the rest!
Time Zones:
An on-line database is supplied listing most of the World
Time Zones. Enter a '?' at the prompt and enter the first two letter
of the Country you wish to check. Half Hour Zones are supported by
the program, enter as (xx.5)

* GENERAL INFORMATION *
*********************************************************************
In operation three birth charts are in memory at all times and
information is cross indexed between them for relevant calculations
and inter aspects. The simplicity and effectiveness of this
configuration becomes apparent with actual hands on use :-
Current Chart
-----------------
This is the present or working chart and can be recalled to screen
after aspect or other calls by clicking this option from the menu.
Resident Chart
------------------
This is the secondary chart used for comparisons with the current
chart, or for progressions. The resident chart is used for all
progression work and it is this chart which is progressed. To make a
current file resident use the 'Make Current Resident' option from the
menu.
User Chart
--------------
This is the personal chart loaded into the program at start up. This
chart can be called at any time to be made resident or to be compared
to a current resident chart.
Real Time
-------------
This option takes the date and time from the System Internal Clock
and calculates a chart for the present moment. Location is taken from
the User Chart. To set the internal clock use the 'Change System
Date/Time' facility and if applicable also set Summertime.
Noon GMT
-----------
This selection prompts for a date that generates a chart for Noon GMT
Greenwich against the date entered. This option is a short cut to
obtaining a general date for transits without having to use the full
'New Chart' menu.
Change System Date/Time
--------------------------
Allows the user to change the computers system's Time and Date for use
with the 'Real Time Mode'. Also useful for Progressions when a special
date is being studied.
Summertime
------------
If Summertime is set the program compensates for the time difference
in 'Real Time' mode.
Load Files
-----------
A selection of demonstration charts are on disk. These files are
stored under different headings for ease of retrieval.
Save File
----------
Not Active in the unregistered version. When present this selection
allows charts to be saved to disk. If the location , i.e. Placename,
is present (Optional) the program checks the 'Lat_Long' file and this
is updated with the current geographical data if not already
present.
Delete File
------------
Unwanted data files may be erased from disk with this option.
Hotkeys
-------
Many of the commonly used menu options have keyboard short-cut hotkeys
and these are shown to the right of the menu selection. For example,
'Mew Chart' is activated by pressing the AMIGA RIGHT KEY and N.
********************************************************************
* THE SETUP SCREEN *
********************************************************************
Any configuration of planets, aspects and orb settings may be selected
from within this option. The highlighted box against a selection show
that the particular entry is active.
1. Active Planets
------------------
These are the main planets as shown in the chart wheel and are always
associated with the current chart. To deactivate a planet click the
highlighted box against the selected item. The box will become greyed
showing that the planet is de-selected. To reactivate click the same
box to highlight the item.
When planets are de-selected the program ignores them entirely, they
are not calculated, shown on screen nor are they available for aspect
checking or any other work.
The ability to de-select planets makes it easier to evaluate selective
information. One example is the calculation of a Progressed chart with
the intension of comparing it to to the Natal pattern. In this system
the relative motion of the outer planets is such that any Natal
aspects are in orb for most of the subjects life and are therefore
superfluous for predictive use. It is desirable therefore to have the
planets Jupiter through Pluto deactivated. Thus ensuring that the
screen, printer or disk file is not cluttered with unwanted text and
data.
2. Aspected Planets
--------------------
This option relates only to ASPECTS. The active planets may be viewed
as the principle, dominant and active group whereas the aspected
planets are the passive, receptive group.
A De-selected Aspected Planet is no longer available for aspect
analysis and is totally ignored by the program when inter-aspects or
comparative aspects are calculated.
In comparison work the 'Current Chart' planets are the active category
and the 'Resident Chart' planets are the passive category. If, for
instance, in a transit search you wished to compile a file showing
aspects only to your Natal Sun. Then all 'Aspected Planets' except for
the Sun should be disabled by de-selection.
3. Active Aspects
------------------
In this current version of Astro_22 sixteen different aspect patterns
are available to the user. Highly desirable when analysing a Natal
Chart, however is general work only the major aspects are required: In
fact when all sixteen types are active the mind is overwhelmed by
having so much information on screen at one time, especially when
reading off tabulated aspects. Therefore, de-activate all aspect types
that are not required.
A quick method of turning off/on minor aspects is available from the
'ASPECTS' menu.
4. Change Orb
--------------
This option gives the ability to fine tune aspect orbs to Ones
personal preference.
To alter the default orb setting click the relevant aspect box and
enter the new value into the dialogue prompt which appears on screen.
Settings may be saved to disk as the default orb values.
Reset to Default
-----------------
If many changes were made in the 'Setup' screen use this menu option
to instantly reset all flags to the default values. This saves the
hassle of entering the setup screen to activate disabled items.
INSTALLING ASTRO22 ONTO A HARD DRIVE
------------------------------------
1. Create a directory on a hard drive partition named ASTRO22 and
open a window.
2. Insert the MASTER Astro22 disk into DF0: open a window and
'view all files.'
3. Select all files and drag to the ASTRO22 hard drive folder.
4. If two disks were supplied repeat step 3 and overwrite any
duplicated files.
5. DF0: MASTER DISK: Click on the FONTS ICON to open its window.

You are prompted to enter the full path to your program.
As an example for the Amiga600HD, the path entered will read:
WORK:ASTRO22/
From the menu bar select 'Save Settings' and then exit the
program.
You should now be able to run your Astro.22 program from the hard
drive.
